A report has been published on the world’s first town-sized Digital Deposit Return Scheme (DDRS) trial in Brecon from 2023.
The scheme encourages consumers to recycle more items and reduce littering.
The Scan | Recycle | Reward trial in Brecon resulted in 18,794 rewards being claimed. This trial was put in place to help better understand the implications of implementing and operating a Digital Deposit Return Scheme across the country.
The Government were also keen to see how the scheme could be integrated with kerbside recycling services.
The results showed that kerbside returns were the most popular method, chosen for 58% of returns, with 97.6% compliance observed.
Wrap Cymru’s qualitative research highlighted community acceptance towards the scheme with residents expressing willingness to use technology for recycling.
